Shielding

 (Occult and Psychic Protection)

Written and compiled by George Knowles

When using magick or performing ritual it is common practice to first create sacred space in the form of a Magick Circle (see Circle Casting).  The objective of creating this magick circle is to protect the practitioner from forces or energies that he or she might raise, effectively shielding them from unwanted or intrusive outside influences.  This magick circle or “shield” is constructed of personal power, which is raised, felt and visualized as a sphere of energy circling above, below and all around the circle area.  But what about the times you are not working within a protected circle?

Many people drawn to the Craft of the Wise are natural Psychics, Mediums and Empaths, people who are highly tuned to the energies and supernatural forces that surround us.  During our every day lives we are constantly bombarded by varying levels of vibrating energy, most times positive but sometimes negative.  Sensitive people in tune with these energies often find it difficult to switch off their natural abilities, and as a result, frequently suffer from what are commonly known as “Psychic Attacks”.

Psychic Attacks often occur during times of great stress and trauma, like those caused by natural disasters, multiple accidents and the consequences of War.  At such times sensitive people pick up the accumulated emotions of those involved, which can cause them Psychic overload resulting in deep distress or other debilitating effects including headaches, fatigue and confusion.  Another form of Psychic Attack occurs in the work place, where for whatever reason; dominant unscrupulous people target their lesser co-workers, which can lead to nervousness, loss of self-confidence and sudden changes in behaviour.  Perhaps the most dangerous form of Psychic Attack are those conjured up from within the “Magick” community.  Launched with malicious intent against specific individuals, the seriousness of these attacks cannot be understated for they can cause nightmares, irrational fear or sudden unexplained illnesses.

So how can we protect ourselves from such attacks

Ceremonial magicians and other high-end Occultists spend years in training to perfect complicated rituals and create powerful talismanic charms to protect themselves from attack, but for the ordinary person without such training, there are numerous basic measures one can take, such like the Circle Casting operation above, but designed specifically to protect the individual.  However, it takes time and effort to create an effective Shield, but once in place, in addition to providing the more obvious Psychic and Magickal protection, a shield will help to maintain your emotional balance and physical well-being.

There are of course many and varied methods used to create a shield, so here I shall outline just one method, which can be adapted to suit most situations.  Once created your shield should be strengthened daily and never “turned off”, for lets face it, if you have to wait to launch your shield in response to an attack, it will already be too late to be effective, but left in place and properly maintained it is likely to be so much stronger.

The Aura Shield

The Aura is a force or energy that surrounds all people and all things (objects).  It can be discerned by some people as a brightly shimmering or glowing light, but only to those people of unusual psychic sensitivity.”

Everyone has a natural Aura, but most people don’t know it is there and have never consciously used it.  By developing your Aura, it can be used as a filter to shield you from unwanted influences and vibrating emotions emitted from developing situations or people around you.

To begin developing your Aura Shield, find a quiet place where you can sit alone without distractions.  Ground and center, and expel any pent up negativity caused by your daily travails.  When you are sitting comfortably and feeling suitably at peace, visualize your Aura and feel it pulsating and spinning around you as a thick layer of energy.  Once you can visualise it, extend it slowly out and away from your body and see it filling your personal space (usually about three feet all around, above and below you).  Visualize the light blocking all unwanted intrusions and negative influences, while absorbing anything positive you may need to receive.  Hold the vision in place as long as you can without tiring, then release it and repeat the exercise.

When you can hold your Shield in place indefinitely without consciously thinking about it, you should begin to experiment, move it out away from the body or draw it closer until you feel comfortable with its protection.  A word of caution however, it is important to keep your shield as close to your body as possible, particularly when out in the work place or other congested area where you are likely to be in close contact with other people.  If your shield is too far out and a stranger walks up close to you, they will be inside your protection and who knows if they are friend or foe?

Next you can customise your shield to suit your own circumstances, try changing its colour (Blue, Black and Red are the 3 strongest colours for protection, while White is the color of spiritual purity and is good for most all psychic and magickal purposes), or visualise the structure of the shield made from different reflective substances, such as crystals or metal.  You could also make the outside surface of the Shield shiny like a mirror, thus able to deflect away negative influences.  Remember there is no right or wrong way to building a shield, as each is unique to the individual.

Once you have mastered the basic Shield, you can try something more complex, like adding a second Shield around the first, but spinning in the opposite direction.  This second Shield should be constructed and coloured differently to the first, and the gap between the two filled with something spongy or jelly-like (or even Fire, or Water), something that will absorb anything negative breeching your first Shield.  Rotating the Shields in opposite directions will also effectively block anything passing through the first Shield.

The key to effective Shielding is to do it daily, and in time, with practice, the more effective it will become.  Left in place your shield will take on a life of its own and eventually act like psychic thermometer
